Our Viking men started off the conference games with a bang. Their second conference match-up against Milikin on January 9th started a four game winning streak for the Viking men proving their strengths and their high potential to the rest of the CCIW. Their strongest match-up yet was against the team North Parkers dislike the most, Wheaton College. It game proved to be far from an upset.
The Viking men got trampled by proud fans when the overtime clock ran down and the crowd realized that the North Park Basketball team had not only defeated a HUGE rival, but had defeated the Wheaton Thunder for the first time since 2003. Although the men have hit a bump in the road, losing their last four conference match-ups, there is no doubt that this campus has faith in these talented men.
On a positive note, lone senior Nick Williams and captain Roshawn Russell have both earned CCIW player of the week honors this season. In addition, the whole team was featured in the Chicago Sun Times during the third week of January. There have been some switch ups in the line-up and the men are running a few different schemes that may demonstrate their strength, talent, and continued perseverence.
The Viking men are ranked fifth in conference as of February 4th and have five more conference games to look forward too. With a huge match up this weekend against our long-time rivals: Wheaton College! The men play at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday at Wheaton College, and the Viking women follow playing at 7:30 P.M. Want to go but don’t have a car? No worries, Student Association has reserved North Park vans for transportation.
So, if you’re a student that is willing to travel to support our Vikings find the sign up sheet to reserve your seat and get the word out to all your classmates! After Wheaton, the men have two more home games on February 10th and again on February 20th. So put your Viking gear on and follow our men to victory! Go get em’ Park!
